CIA abuses: Arrest of Italian secret services director confirms collusion of EU states in CIA abuses
Following the arrest today of Marco Mancini, Director of the Italian military intelligence agency (SISMI), on suspicion of assisting in CIA renditions, Green MEPs Cem Özdemir and Raül Romeva said:
"The arrest of Marco Mancini in Milan today confirms the collusion of EU Member States in CIA abuses on European territory. The European Parliament and Council of Europe investigations have uncovered a sizeable body of evidence revealing the complicity of EU governments in CIA abductions but today's arrest leaves this complicity beyond doubt.
"This arrest is only the tip of the iceberg. Strong suspicions of collusion exist in a number of Member States. Now that the Italian administration has begun to treat these charges with the seriousness they deserve, all other Member States must follow suit and cooperate completely with the ongoing investigations."
